The Minister of Institutional Reform, Murielle Minkoué Mintsa, stated in a press conference held on Friday, March 22, 2024 in Libreville, that the next constitution to be drafted by a constituent assembly, will be based on the aspirations of the Gabonese people, and not the will of a minority and the manipulations carried out by the ousted regime embodied for 56 years by the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG).
“After the 1991 constitution, politicians manipulated and tampered with it as they pleased. At no point, except in 1994, did we have the expression of the people; and the CTRI and the transitional government rely on this expression of the people during the constitutional referendum scheduled for the end of the year”, stated Ms. Minkoué Mintsa.
According to the member of the Transitional government, dialogues initiated in the past were “purely political”. They were the exclusive domain of political parties from both the majority and the opposition. Conclusions drawn from these meetings did not reflect the will of the people.
“Regarding the concerns of some, there is the inclusive nature of the dialogues. It is an inclusive dialogue because it does not exclude anyone. It was inclusive in its preparation as the people were consulted following the call for contributions by the Prime Minister on October 2, 2023”, she emphasized.
The call for contributions to the National Dialogue, which had a deadline of December 30, 2023, received over 23,000 contributions made individually or by associations, including from the Gabonese diaspora. These contributions will be examined from April 2 to April 30 during the national dialogue, which some are asking to be postponed for better organization.
