Member of the Political Bureau of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), former ruling party in leadership crisis, Maître Francis Nkea, in a press conference held on Monday, March 11, 2024 in Libreville, vehemently denounced and condemned the appointment of the new party directory which, according to him, suffers from a blatant illegitimacy.

“The party itself, through its statutes, has provided for the appointment of leaders through a congress of members; not having done so, we believe that the party’s statutes have been violated, this is irresponsible behavior”, observed Me Nkea.

On March 7, there was a reorganization of the PDG’s organizational chart. This was during a joint meeting attended by some members of the Executive Secretariat, the Permanent Committee of the Political Bureau, and those of the party’s Council of Sages

At the end of the meeting, Maître Francis Nkea said he was surprised that the interim Secretary General of the PDG, Luc Oyoubi, had unexpectedly announced the appointment of the new party leaders, and the removal of the president of the political party, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

The members of the new provisional directory of the PDG include Paul Biyoghe Mba (1st vice president), Alain Claude Bilie By Nze (2nd vice president),Jeannont Kalima (3rd vice president), and Yves Fernand Manfoumbi (4th vice president).

For the legal militant, this appointment did not respect the provisions of the party’s statutes, even though the reasons given were the unavailability of the “Distinguished comrade president Ali Bongo Ondimba,” weakened by illness.

In case of unavailability of Ali Bongo Ondimba, the congress can be convened in extraordinary session, Article 31 of the statutes provides, “at the request of 2/3 of the members of the Political Bureau or at the request of 2/3 of the members of the National Council”.

“This is why I felt obligated as a militant to request the cancellation of this decision of March 7, 2024, which contributes to the violation of the PDG’s statutes and seriously harms my interests,” he said, also indicating that he had seized the Constitutional Court as the guarantor of fundamental rights of the human person and political liberties.

In his motion, Me Francis Nkea asked the judge to issue an “interim” order immediately suspending “the execution of this decision of March 7, 2024 regarding the new organizational chart” of the PDG.
