Mocked and accused of ignoring the cries of the population following the heatwave currently affecting the country since January, the Transition government timidly launched a public awareness campaign this weekend on life-saving actions.
According to educational materials from the National Education and Health Promotion Service (SNEPS), a branch of the Ministry of Health, the population is encouraged to drink plenty of water.
SNEPS advises the population to wet their bodies and ventilate, avoid physical exertion outdoors, avoid alcoholic beverages, and avoid going out during the hottest hours between 1:30 and 3:30 PM.
SNEPS also recommends ventilating homes especially in the evening and even during the day.
It is worth noting that since last January, rains have become scarce. Instead, a heatwave is overwhelming the population day and night. Some people suffer from burns and suffocation.
The heatwave is complicating the daily lives of the population, who are also suffering from a wave of coughing and conjunctivitis infections.
