The president of the Gabonese Taekwondo and Associated Martial Arts Association (AGATAMA), Jean Félix Ngomas, announced last weekend at the end of a technical meeting with club and association leaders, including those from the Taekwondo league of the estuary, that the 27th edition of the “Baby Champion” competition, dedicated to children aged 3 to 12, will take place from March 30th to 31st at the military Prytanée gymnasium in Libreville.

“We have created a Baby Champion logo because ‘Baby Champion’ will no longer just be a competition, but will be a societal project, a social project, a major project dedicated to children,” explained Mr. Ngomas, announcing the date of the competition which begins with the weigh-in of the young athletes on March 29th.

Registration fees are set at 2000 CFA francs per coach and per athlete. Registrations will start on March 1st and end on March 16th at 6pm, two weeks before the start of the competition. The program includes individual and team fights in all categories (without touch for children aged 3 to 6 and with touch for children aged 7 to 12) with a duration of 1min30s per round.

For Jean Félix Ngomas, the objective of this competition “is to train our children to be more and more experienced in the practice of martial arts. And why not for the older ones who will change categories, move to the cadet category, to ensure that these children are really prepared to become the backbone of our national teams, so that Gabon becomes a nation of champions”.

Clubs from inland areas are invited to express their intention to participate, as has already been done by Ogooué Maritime, Moyen Ogooué and Woleu Ntem.

It is worth noting that the 26th edition, which took place after a 4-year hiatus due to lack of funding, saw the participation of 250 children from 20 clubs in the Gabonese capital.
