The national football championship will start on March 30th, announced Gabonese Minister of Sports, André Jacque Augand on Thursday.
“All conditions are met, there are no problems,” the minister emphasized. André Jacque Augand made these comments during a seminar organized by the National Professional Football League (LINAFP) in preparation for the start of the championship.
The seminar brings together club officials (D1 and D2) around the theme of “supporting the structuring of professional football clubs in Gabon” for the smooth running of the future national championship.
“The purpose of this seminar is to support the sustainable restructuring process of the Gabonese football ecosystem and, consequently, of the professional football championship with a primary focus on clubs,” explained Brice Mbika Ndjambou, president of LINAFP.
The meeting, which ends on Friday, is conducted by the international expert consulting firm Ernst & Young. It will focus on four modules: good governance of clubs, change management, accounting and financial management including legal and fiscal obligations, as well as the issue of ethical behavior in football.
“These are essential issues whose solutions will have a positive impact on the smooth running of the national female and male football championships, and therefore on sports as a whole,” emphasized André Jacque Augand.
In its current form, the national football championship is fully funded by the state. Libreville wishes to change this economic model, which has shown its limitations. Clubs are invited to seek additional sources of funding, in addition to the state’s contribution. The aim is to avoid interrupting the competition in case of non-payment of the state subsidy.
