If some are hoping for the “death” of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) ousted from power following the events of August 30, 2023, on Tuesday in Port-Gentil, on the occasion of its 56th anniversary, the provincial secretary 8, Ferdinand Ndo Ella, declared that the political party founded in 1968 by Omar Bongo is very much alive and active.Â

The Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) is celebrating its first anniversary this year away from the corridors of power. In the province of Ogooué-Maritime, the festivities, less flashy than in the past, were marked on Tuesday, March 12, by the noticeable absence of some senior party officials who have led the country continuously for 55 years. Most prominent figures and their top leaders were absent, while the atmosphere was heavy for an event supposed to be joyful.Â
Leading this event, the Provincial Secretary 8, Ferdinand Ndo Ella, stated that his political party, like a phoenix, rises from the ashes. For him, “the PDG is still alive and well-established” and he also believes that “it is high time for the militants and sympathizers to stop the quarrels and move forward united for a bright future of the PDG“.
To try to restore order within this stable that has been experiencing internal quarrels and leadership wars for some time, Self-criticism and Refounding Sessions of the Party were convened to allow militants to lay everything on the table and refine new strategies to enable the former ruling party to rise up and work towards regaining the presidential seat.Â

Indeed, on February 23 and 24, all party militants were given the opportunity to highlight the party’s motto “dialogue, tolerance, peace“. Thus, a report of these meetings was prepared containing three main axes: the configuration of the PDG in the province, the debates, and the recommendations. In this regard, twelve recommendations were proposed, within the framework of the re-foundation of the PDG. “Last August was our first experience of losing power. Today we will fight, work hard to regain power“, reassured Ferdinand Ndo Ella.
Ready to support the new personalities promoted to lead the PDG, Provincial Secretary 8 hopes that these leaders of the party will pay attention to the proposals, requests, and recommendations from the grassroots.Â
