The public lighting, insecurity, high cost of living, water supply, road repairs, and watershed sanitation are some of the priority areas on which the special delegate in charge of managing the municipality of Port-Gentil, General Pierre Rizogo Rousselot, plans to focus during his term. On February 20, he unveiled his roadmap before gathering suggestions from partners.

Recently appointed at the head of the municipality of Port-Gentil, Army Corps General Pierre Rizogo Rousselot presented his ambitions for the city on February 20. “Yesterday, a coveted city, Port-Gentil is no longer today than a shadow of itself. It is no longer the economic capital in anything but name,” he regretted, revealing the priorities for the oil city.

Fueled by the disappointment of the decay in his hometown, the special delegate has decided to undertake impactful actions for the well-being of the population. In this perspective, the main axes of his development strategy include the implementation of a model for water drainage to canals and ditches, the creation of footbridges, the modernization of roads, and the sanitation of neighborhoods.

“These initiatives are essential for the revitalization of the human space and reflect the commitment of the Committee for the transition and restoration of institutions (CTRI). These actions are possible because they result from our collective commitment. And, I appeal to your involvement,” he expressed.

The promotion of cultural identity through the upcoming “Mandji Culture” festival and the fight against incivility through the implementation of the “No to incivility, all responsible for Port-Gentil” operation are other areas of the program on which Pierre Rizogo Rousselot plans to focus to restore the economic capital to its former glory.

“I am determined to eradicate incivility, restore well-being, and promote the quality of life of our fellow citizens,” he indicated, enthusiastic and looking forward to relaunching the annual Mandji Culture festival.

As an advisory body on which the special delegate wants to rely, the Council of Wise Elders pointed out some irregularities in the collection of municipal revenues, which is a real obstacle to the economic development of the municipality. The representative of the notability, Philippe Igowe, also criticized the fact that the rents from the Josaphat Rapontchombo market are collected by a third party, as well as those from the Essongué Rigo space and the municipal dump.

The Collective of Religious Confessions, through the Bishop of Port-Gentil, Monseigneur Euzébius Chinekezy Ogbonna Managwu, enumerated some difficulties faced by the population, particularly in terms of water supply, electricity distribution, insecurity, pollution, squalor, unemployment, high cost of living, and the issue of mentally ill individuals.

In terms of suggestions that would impact the development of the oil city, the Collective of Religious Confessions proposes the deployment of public pumps and electric poles across neighborhoods, the inspection of water quality, sanitation of pipelines, and the strengthening of garbage bins throughout the city. “Your concerns are valid! The special delegation that I represent has a specific mission: to listen and be ready to act for the well-being of the population. Let’s work first for the city. Let’s not think first about money,” instructed General Pierre Rizogo Rousselot.
