About the Marc-Vivien Foé Award:
Since 2011, the award for the best African player in Ligue 1 has been named after Marc-Vivien Foé in tribute to the Cameroonian player who died on June 26, 2003 on the field of the Gerland stadium in Lyon. At the age of 28, Foé had played in France for Racing Club de Lens and Olympique Lyonnais, leaving behind the memory of an exemplary and universally appreciated footballer.
