The former Member of the Permanent Central Committee (MPC) of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG, former ruling party ousted on August 30, 2023), Noël Mboumba, has been promoted to vice-president in charge of economic issues at the national office of the Union for the Republic (UPR).
Having become a simple militant of the PDG for some time, Noël Mboumba had been observing a withdrawal from all political activities like many others who had experienced legal turmoil under the reign of the all-powerful “Young Team” ousted in favor of the “freedom coup of August 30, 2023.”
Noël Mboumba says he is leaving Ali Bongo’s party for “personal convenience, as its functioning no longer corresponds to his personal aspirations or his model of political expression.”
Nicknamed “the Machine,” especially in the 4th district of Port-Gentil, his political base, and in the province of Ogooué Maritime in general where he takes actions in favor of the population, the former Minister of Petroleum remains grateful to his former comrades in the “mass party” who were supposed to join him gradually shortly.
For keen observers of the country’s political life, the UPR, whose leader is Gervais Oniane, the current Personal High Representative of the President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, would have made a good pick by appointing Noël Mboumba to better prepare for the upcoming post-transition elections scheduled for the end of 2025.
