The honorable Odette Polo Pandzou, deputy to the National Transitional Assembly, convened the residents of the Ndougou department in Gamba on Wednesday, February 28 in Libreville to discuss the prospects for local development in the context of the political transition.
During a significant community meeting, the honorable Odette Polo Pandzou, Deputy to the National Transitional Assembly, called upon the residents of the Ndougou department in Gamba on February 28, 2024 in Libreville. This assembly, marked by a diversity of participants, aimed to discuss the development prospects of the locality in the context of the political transition that has been shaking the country since 2023.
The deputy opened the session by expressing her gratitude to all those who responded to the invitation, emphasizing the importance of their presence in consolidating community projects. In her opening speech, she highlighted the commitment of the community of Ndougou to the new regime, emphasizing the historical opportunity to contribute to the construction of a new Gabon.
Among the topics discussed during the meeting, the deputy highlighted the economic potential of the department, including the resumption of activities by the Gabon Oil Company (GOC), as well as opportunities in ecotourism. She also emphasized the need to defend local demands, such as the development of the region through infrastructure projects such as the bridge over the Nyanga River and the coastal road linking Omboué. She also highlighted the crucial role played by the community in shaping public policies, calling for collective mobilization to make the specific needs of Ndougou heard by the state authorities.
“Like other communities in Gabon, and aware of the decisive turn our country has taken since the events of August 30, 2023, our locality has a duty to join its voice and energies in building the new Gabon that lies ahead. It therefore seemed useful and urgent to initiate this consultation in order to clarify the sustainable development stakes of our locality, which can only be mastered through the involvement of each and every one of us,” emphasized the honorable Odette Polo Pandzou.
The deputy concluded the meeting by assuring participants that all discussions and proposals would be recorded in a memorandum, intended to be transmitted to the head of state for the effective consideration of the demands and expectations of the Ndougou community. She urged residents to remain united and work together to advance local development projects, respecting diversity and common interests.
“As a community, we are in competition with other communities, and we must show our specificity, ingenuity, and added value. This leads me to recall that we possess this added value because, for the past twenty years, the department has become aware of its future by working on and developing a local development plan. We must therefore remain mobilized with the idea that absolutely nothing can stand in the way of an organized and determined community,” she concluded.
This meeting thus marks an important step in the process of consultation and citizen engagement, demonstrating the Ndougou community’s willingness to play an active role in transforming their region and the country as a whole.
