Gabon: National Dialogue: Nearly 600 people expected from April 2nd to 30th

While in Gabon the political class was questioning the modalities of the upcoming April Dialogue, the decree convening the Inclusive National Dialogue was published in the Official Journal. From missions to conclusions to the composition of the board, the text sets out all the modalities of this meeting and specifies that 582 participants are expected from April 2 to 30.

We now know a little more about the modalities of the upcoming April Inclusive National Dialogue. According to the decree convening this meeting, it will take place from April 2 to 30 with a total of 580 participants including members of the board and commissioners. Among them are 28 members of the board chaired by the metropolitan archbishop of Libreville, 64 representatives of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), 10 representatives of the Transitional Government, 10 representatives of the Transitional Parliament, 5 representatives of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council of the Transition, 12 from the judicial corps, 30 from the ministerial departments, 48 from the special delegations of the departmental councils, 52 from the special delegations of the communes, 104 representatives of legally recognized political parties with 1 representative per political party, 10 from the employers’ association, 10 from trade unions, 10 from the education sector.

In addition, there are 10 representatives from the academic world, 10 representatives from civilian and military retirees, 8 representatives of people living with disabilities (PLWD), 8 from Pygmy communities, 18 wise men and dignitaries including 2 per province, 10 from cultural-traditional movements, 5 from human rights defense associations, 5 from NGOs, 5 from women’s associations, 5 from youth associations, 10 representatives from professional orders, 10 from artists, 10 from crafts, 5 representatives from the Catholic Church, 5 from the Evangelical Church of Gabon, 5 from revival churches, 5 from the Muslim community, 5 from the African diaspora, 12 from the European diaspora, 5 from the American diaspora and 6 representatives from other categories.

“The designation of participants in the Inclusive National Dialogue is materialized by a decree from the president of the Transition,” notes the decree convening said Dialogue which specifies that “the board of the Inclusive National Dialogue can invite any person recognized for their expertise or experience on the issues discussed in plenary session or in committee”.

The work will take place in plenary sessions, committees, and sub-committees, the number and composition of which will be determined by regulation. According to the decree, the conclusions of this meeting must be implemented before the end of the Transition period and must be in accordance with the Transition Charter.
