If voices have been rising in favor of postponing the Inclusive National Dialogue scheduled for the entire month of April, on Wednesday, facing the government, the President of the Transition confirmed the date of April 2 for the opening of these talks, which are already deemed a failure by some.

He clearly does not intend to let his conduct be dictated, even by some of his most vocal supporters. General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema maintains the holding of the Inclusive National Dialogue from April 2 to 30. Confirmation was given during the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, March 20 at the seaside palace. While several voices have risen in recent days, notably calling for a postponement or even a reformulation of these meetings, the President of the Transition assured the government members that they will indeed take place in less than two weeks. This should therefore prompt them to hasten preparations.

For the leader of the CTRI, this is a “historic appointment” intended to “provide Gabon with a peaceful and inclusive post-transition governance”, constituting therefore “a crucial step in the process of building a new Gabon, firmly focused on progress and the well-being of its citizens”. At a time when many Gabonese people would rather see the establishment of a truth-justice-reparation-reconciliation commission before engaging in new talks, the general-president, who received on Thursday, March 21, the group of sages and former dignitaries of the country who recently warned of a possible failure of these talks, reminded the government members that the dialogue he is convening“will have the mission of defining the duration of the Transition, outlining a new governance of the country, and developing the principles and rules that should govern the Nation in all areas of public life.”.

Therefore, all political and social actors are invited to seize the“unique opportunity” offered to them to contribute to the building of a Gabon that the military in power want united and prosperous. “It is the responsibility of everyone to actively participate, directly or indirectly, in this constructive dialogue and to place the higher interest of the Nation above any other consideration”, urges the Palace.
