Opening the works of the sovereign national dialogue on Tuesday at the Palais des Sports in Libreville, the president of the transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, stated that the CTRI has placed “the sovereign national dialogue under the seal of the Gods”. This was his way of calling on the president of the bureau of these meetings and the many other ‘men of God’ around him to conduct the proceedings with dignity and humility.
“The involvement of religious leaders seemed essential to me. It is up to them to ensure that Gabon regains its dignity and emerges united with itself,” said Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma. For the president of the transition, the involvement of these leaders guarantees greater inclusivity in decision-making.
“The army has done its part, it is now up to the clergy and the church to do theirs,” said the President of the transition, who urged the ‘men of God’ to ensure that only Gabon emerges victorious at the end of the proceedings.
In addition to the president of the meetings, the metropolitan bishop of Libreville, Mgr Jean Patrick Iba-Ba, the bureau of the inclusive national dialogue includes six other representatives of different religious denominations, including 3 vice-presidents, 2 presidential advisers, and the spokesperson for the dialogue; for a total of 20 members.
The works of the inclusive sovereign national dialogue, opened by an ecumenical prayer, are scheduled to be held until April 29 at the cooperation stadium sino-Libreville in Angondjé, in the northern suburb of the Gabonese capital. The Palais des Sports will once again provide the venue for the closing ceremony on April 30, 2024.
