The Deputy Secretary General 1 and spokesperson of the Union du Peuple Gabonais (UPG), Serge Alain Nzamba, announced on Saturday, March 2, 2024 in a statement, that Mathieu Mboumba Nziengui is no longer the president of the party, according to a decision of the court of first instance of Libreville rendered on March 2, 2024.

“Justice has finally ruled in our favor and we have set ourselves the mission of meeting the challenge of organizing a congress that will give the party legitimate and legal leaders so that the party can regain its former glory,” said Mr. Nzamba, visibly pleased.

At the party headquarters located in Awendje in the 4th district of Libreville, Serge Alain Nzamba made the trip with some members of the party’s Executive Secretariat. These are party officials who were incriminated by Mathieu Mboumba Nziengui.

Indeed, the former president of the UPG had filed a complaint on September 21, 2023 at the court of first instance of Libreville against members of the Executive Secretariat for “defamation, public disorder, and damage to his honor”. They also denounced his scandalous and approximate management of the party.

“He was elected in 2016, his term ended in 2019 and since 2019, he has been acting illegally and illegitimately, we made him aware of this, which is why he took us to court,” he observed.

According to article 14 of the party’s statutes, the secretary general will now assume interim responsibility until the long-awaited congress is organized by the party founded by the late charismatic opposition leader Pierre Mamboundou, whose “vision of the community was that the general interest should take precedence over personal interest.”
