The former opponent to the Bongo regime, who ran in the last presidential election in Gabon, was recently received at the Palace by the President of the Transition, to whom he introduced two companies, Gunvor and Vakana Alliance, which are supposed to help the CTRI in realizing its ambitions, especially in the areas of oil and hydrocarbons.
Contrary to other political leaders who have accepted nominations, Pierre-Claver Maganga Moussavou hopes to help the new authorities of Gabon in the business field. The president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has apparently been prospecting for potential new partners for his country in recent months, capable of realizing the numerous and diverse projects put forward by the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). On Thursday, February 15th, the former Vice President of the Republic introduced two international companies, Gunvor and Vakana Alliance, to General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
At the Palace of the Renovation, it is reported that these two companies have submitted “commercial proposals to support Gabon in its development.” The first, Gunvor, represented by Guillaume Letessier, “is one of the world’s largest oil product traders.” While nothing has been done in terms of a potential market in Gabon, where the share purchase agreement between Gabon Oil Company (GOC) and The Carlyle Group was signed on the same day, the head of Gunvor, a company based in Geneva, Switzerland, said to have had an “effective” meeting in Libreville.
The second company, Vakana Alliance, represented by Mao Dag Dag, is less known. Specializing in investment consulting, the firm is a development fund whose mission is to contribute to the emergence of countries.
Thanks to Pierre-Claver Maganga Moussavou, the two companies are expected to be among the partners of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). The palace has announced “the upcoming meetings that will allow the Gabonese government and the companies to establish a convention and proceed to the signing of agreements between the two parties.” The authorities also clarify that the former opponent to the Bongo regime, a candidate in the August 2023 presidential election, is acting in this matter “as a businessman”. He would have no official mission. On social media, the intervention of the entrepreneur from Mouila is widely appreciated. Many present him as an opportunist.
