Léandre Nzue, a hierarch of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), announced in a press conference held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 in Libreville, his dramatic resignation from this former ruling party, citing “banana governance” characterized by a betrayal at the top of the party.

“Unable to accept being, in the eyes of history, an accomplice to this banana governance which despises the party base and the congress, mindful of the judgment of the founding fathers beyond the grave, I, on this Sunday, March 24, 2024, in all responsibility before you gathered here, announce my decision to step down from this party, the Gabonese Democratic Party, which has become so foreign to me,” Mr. Nzue announced to the enthusiastic applause of his supporters who had gathered in large numbers at the N’kembo Professional Training Center (CFPN), the venue of the event located in the 2nd district of Libreville.

According to the former Mayor of Libreville, the PDG is “inadequate for change”. It is undermined by irresponsible hierarchs who manipulate texts for personal gain. This is justified, he argues, by the “betrayal that has led to the appointment of a new directory at the helm of the party, in contempt of the current statutory provisions, is in my view, the final betrayal”.

“Tomorrow, I will hand my resignation letter to the PDG Deputy Secretary General 1, Luc Oyoubi, who, according to the statutes, is the only competent person to ensure the interim of the President of the Party and the General Secretary until the Congress is held,” he said.

On March 7, there was a reorganization of the PDG’s organizational chart. This took place during a joint meeting attended by some members of the Executive Secretariat, the Permanent Committee of the Political Bureau, and the Council of Elders of the party.

At the end of the meeting, the interim Secretary General of the PDG, Luc Oyoubi, unexpectedly announced the appointment of new party leaders and the removal of the president of the political party, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

Following his resignation from the PDG, Léandre Nzue also announced the forthcoming establishment of his political association called: “Together for Restoration (EPR)”. This political movement “intends to organize and work in active support and accompaniment of the project of the Committee for Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI).
