The inclusive national dialogue will take place from April 2 to April 30, 2024, according to a decree issued on March 8, 2024, and made public this Sunday in the Gabonese capital.
“An Inclusive National Dialogue is convened in Libreville, from April 2 to April 30, 2024,” states article 2 of the decree signed by the President of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma.
“The inclusive national dialogue has the mission of determining the duration of the Transition and proposing the political, economic, and social organization of the nation after the Transition,” specifies article 3 of the same document.
“The dialogue aims to prepare for the post-transition period,” said the Minister of Institutional Reform, Murielle Minkoue Mintsa, who is responsible for preparing the dialogue.
The meeting will be chaired by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Libreville, Monseigneur Jean Patrick Iba-ba. He will be assisted by representatives of the Protestant church and the Muslim religion.
The Minister of Institutional Reform, Murielle Minkoue Mintsa, will serve as the general rapporteur of the meeting.
During the opening ceremony, open to everyone, the President of the Transition will hand over the dialogue instruments to Monseigneur Iba Ba.
At the end of the dialogue, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Libreville will hand over the dialogue conclusions to the President of the Transition, who will then transmit them to the elected president at the end of the transition for implementation.
The meeting will bring together 580 participants, including 104 political parties as well as several civil society associations and organizations. Gabonese nationals from the diaspora are also invited.
The national dialogue is one of the steps in the transition process initiated in the country after the coup d’état on August 30, 2023. This will be followed by a referendum to adopt the country’s future constitution before elections that will end the transition.
