The friendship stadium of Angondjé, in the same way as the sports palace of Libreville, has been chosen by the authorities to host the future national dialogue aimed at marking a new beginning for Gabon. Renovation works are announced for both infrastructures with the assistance of China.
Scheduled for next April, the national dialogue, which is intended to result in the rewriting of several laws, including the Constitution, is in preparation. With two months to go before this major event, which is supposed to mark a new beginning for Gabon during a period of transition since the coup d’état of August 30, 2023, the new authorities are working hard. The question of the venue for these discussions is also in the process of being resolved.
Relatively well-preserved despite its state of near-abandonment for several years, the friendship stadium of Angondjé, along with the sports palace of Libreville, is one of the two spaces chosen by the government to host this consultation. In anticipation of their renovation, a visit was made on site on Sunday, February 18, by the Minister of Institutional Reform, in the presence of her colleague from the Sports department and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Gabon, Li Jinjin.
At the end of this assessment, Murielle Minkoue, also known as Mintsa, expressed satisfaction. “There is enough space to accommodate the delegates of the dialogue,” the government member told the press before announcing renovation works. The minister acknowledged that the construction will be more significant in some areas than in others. China, for its part, has committed to supporting the authorities to allow for the effective launch of the dialogue on the official date.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has already stated that the sports palace of Libreville will be used for the opening and closing of the national consultation. The friendship stadium, on the other hand, will host the work of the different commissions.
