New European Union (EU) ambassador to Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe, and to the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Cécile Abadie, was received by the Prime Minister of the Transition, Raymond Ndong Sima. The two personalities discussed the bilateral cooperation between Gabon and the EU, especially at this time when the new head of the delegation is taking office and when Gabon is working towards a successful transition and restoration of its institutions.

Having a keen interest in meeting with all the Gabonese actors from all sectors to discuss privileged partnerships and work on their strengthening, while supporting them in addressing challenges, the new EU ambassador to Gabon, Cécile Abadie, who arrived in Gabon on September 1, was received on February 15 by the head of the transitional government. With Raymond Ndong Sima, in addition to the initial contact, they discussed the cooperation between the EU and Gabon in the context of institutional restoration.

Officially in Gabon since September 1, 2023, the French diplomat has presented her credentials to the President of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, on January 26.

In a one-on-one meeting with the Prime Minister of the Transition, the European ambassador praised the cooperation between the EU and Gabon, which is currently strong and is expected to improve. “We discussed the partnership between the EU and Gabon in terms of the future and potential,” she said.

She reiterated to the Prime Minister the EU’s readiness “to support Gabon in addressing its medium- and long-term challenges.” “I discussed some priorities and noted his vision of the most important sectors,” she said after the meeting, also indicating that the focus is on partnership topics that truly allow the development of Gabon to serve the interests of the Gabonese people.

Cécile Abadie and Raymond Ndong Sima also discussed regional integration and the issue of natural resources in order to ensure that the benefits are in favor of the populations.

In a particular context marked by a political transition in Gabon, the diplomat discussed the current situation of the country, with the various stages of the transition process and the challenges that the country will face. All of which allows them to see how the EU could contribute to the success of this process.

Before arriving in Gabon, Cécile Abadie worked for the institutions of the European Union for more than 20 years, in the field of external relations and cooperation. She has held positions such as Head of Cooperation in Lebanon, Head of Political Section, Press and Communication in Morocco, and Deputy Head of the “sanctions” Division.
