Following the appointments of special delegations for the nine provinces of Gabon by the CTRI, the former candidate in the 2016 presidential elections fears that aside from the military, the individuals appointed to lead the localities may be potential candidates in the upcoming elections. He wishes for the management of local authorities to be exclusively entrusted to the defense forces.

For reasons of fairness, equality, and ethics, and to allow all candidates to participate in the 2025 elections on an equal footing, Dieudonné Minlama Mintogo asks the Committee for Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) to “depoliticize the special delegations, after dialogue, by excluding political actors and entrusting the management of local communities exclusively to the defense and security forces whose vocation is not to take part in elections.”

According to the former presidential candidate in 2016, aside from the military, the vast majority of appointed delegates are known political actors from their respective areas of operation. In other words, the different special delegates are potential candidates in the upcoming local elections in the constituencies they are called to administer. He lamented, “This position gives them a certain advantage over other candidates. The possibility for delegates in office to use public resources for personal, electoral, and political purposes seems inevitable. The dice may be loaded in advance.”

According to him, the restoration of institutions also involves organizing fair, honest, democratic, and equitable elections. “The success of the ongoing Transition comes at this price,” affirmed the now activist of the Morena party.

This information comes as the CTRI has just finalized the series of appointments of special delegations responsible for managing the departmental and municipal councils during the transition period.
