The political comeback of the President of Ensemble pour la République, Dieudonné Minlama Mintogo, took place last weekend at the Chamber of Commerce in Libreville. During this event, the former candidate in the 2016 presidential election broke his silence to address the Transition Committee for the Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), the president of the Transition, and also shared his views on the national dialogue and the resurgence of the PDG, “the beast”.
In Libreville, the President of Ensemble pour la République, Dieudonné Minlama Mintogo, made his political comeback on March 16, 2024, in the presence of his supporters and members of Morena. Several key points were raised in the statement by the former presidential candidate. This included the mission of the CTRI and its president, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema; the transition itself, which he considers to be in danger, and the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) gradually emerging from the post-coup paralysis of August 30, 2023.
According to Dieudonné Minlama, the mission undertaken by the CTRI is, in his view, the most important and valuable mission carried out by Gabonese people since the country’s independence. “The outcome of this mission, if positive, will make our country an example, a model of success in the restoration of institutions, in strengthening democracy, and above all in unlocking the situations of democracies that have not succeeded due to impossible alternations that several African countries in the Francophone space suffer from,” he stated, before continuing: “If unfortunately this mission fails, the trauma of this failure will negatively impact the Gabonese population, several generations of African youths, and the Gabonese transition will be cited as an example of political tragedies in Africa”.
Minlama Mintogo believes that the Gabonese transition is in danger, with the risk of it deviating from its mission being very real. He also highlighted the growing pressures faced by the CTRI and its president from various sources. He called on them to maintain focus, respect their commitments to the Gabonese people, and lead with honor and fidelity for a united, strong, proud, and democratic Gabon.
Addressing the President of the Transition, Minlama Mintogo emphasized the importance of success in this historical period for Gabon. He urged Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to resist temptations and remain focused on the mission of restoring institutions and the dignity of Gabonese people.
The article also touches on the upcoming national dialogue, urging the government and the CTRI to rethink the current approach and ensure the dialogue is inclusive and focused on the political and democratic aspects of the current crisis. Minlama Mintogo supports the proposal to postpone the dialogue to make necessary adjustments for its success.
Lastly, Minlama Mintogo discussed the revival of the PDG, the former ruling party, and called on all democratic Gabonese people to unite in preparation for the post-transition Gabon, expressing confidence in reducing the PDG’s influence in the upcoming 2025 general elections.
