As part of the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy and a working and friendship visit based on the memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 by the Parliaments of both countries, the President of the National Assembly of the Transition, Jean-François Ndongou, stayed in Rabat, Morocco from 12 to 15 February. He took the opportunity to reaffirm the importance of the parliamentary dimension in strengthening Moroccan-Gabonese relations and promoting them in the service of the interests of the two friendly countries.

During his stay, on the invitation of his counterpart Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the House of Representatives of Morocco, Jean-François Ndongou had meetings with the parliamentarians of the two Chambers, with the aim of reinforcing bilateral relations between the two countries.

He also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nacer Bourita, and expressed the deep gratitude of the Gabonese authorities for Morocco’s benevolent intentions towards Gabon since the president of the Transition, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, came into power following the change of regime in Gabon. He noted the consistency of King Mohammed VI in the bilateral and fraternal relations that Gabon has had with Morocco for a long time.

Ndongou also sought the support of the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and requested, through him, for King Mohammed VI to accompany the Gabonese authorities in this mission.

In addition, he met with the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Sadiki Mohammed, and outlined the government’s policy on agriculture and fisheries in Gabon, highlighting the opportunities for investors in these sectors. He also requested support from Morocco in these economically impactful sectors, as well as in the areas of fisheries and livestock in which Morocco has extensive experience.

The purpose of Jean-François Ndongou’s visit to Rabat was to contribute to the development of political, economic, cultural, and scientific ties between the two countries. He also reiterated his country’s firm position in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

Gabon pays particular attention to the development of relations with Morocco, not only in economic and political domains but also in anything that brings them together as two allied countries in many ways.
