Gaël Koumba Ayoune, also known as General des Mapanes, filed a complaint on Friday in the Paris court against Noureddin Bongo Valentin for kidnapping and torture.

“We are in a country of rights. Noureddin Bongo is French. So, here, he will have to answer for his actions,” Gaël Koumba said in a video shot outside the Paris court.

“It is important that each person be accountable for their actions because in our country there are people who confuse their bedroom with the Republic,” he insisted, with a green beret on his head and wearing a lime green outfit, the color of revolutionaries.

General des Mapanes had been kidnapped on the street near his home one day before the presidential election on August 26, 2023. His kidnappers immediately put a hood over his head and took him to an unknown destination before placing him in a house that he cannot identify to this day.

He was released on September 21, 2023 after the coup d’état on August 30 of the same year that ousted the Bongo family from power.

The case of General des Mapanes is not isolated. Several activists at the time underwent the same treatment. The aim of the power at the time was to stifle these dissenters in anticipation of the publication of the presidential election results.

General des Mapanes firmly believes that these kidnappings were orchestrated by Noureddin Bongo Valentin, who assumed the presidential functions by default due to the illness of his father Ali Bongo Ondimba.
