Estimating that the new composition of the steering committee of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), the removal of Ali Bongo from the position of president, and the expulsion of Patience Dabany were decided in violation of the statutes of their political party, the former minister and lawyer of the deposed head of state requested the cancellation of the conclusions of the meeting held on March 7th at La Sablière from the court of first instance in Libreville.

He presents himself as the “main drafter of the PDG statutes for 20 years”. Therefore, he must know what he is talking about. The former minister and member of the Political Bureau of the former ruling party, Francis Nkea Ndigue, filed a lawsuit with the court of first instance in Libreville shortly after the publication of the decisions resulting from the meeting presided over by Ali Bongo on Thursday, March 7th, at his residence in La Sablière. He requests their simple cancellation.

The lawyer at the Gabonese bar accuses the members of the Executive Secretariat, the Permanent Committee of the Political Bureau, and the Council of Sages of having violated the statutes of their political party, particularly article 32 of the said text which states that “only the Congress can proceed with the modification by election of the members of the Executive Secretariat,” he recalls. And although public opinion tends to think that having chaired the Thursday meeting, Ali Bongo, in his capacity as “distinguished party president,” conceded his own removal, Francis Nkea expresses doubts in his address to the judge. “Having been removed from his position as party president, the Distinguished Comrade Ali Bongo Ondimba logically could not make such adjustments. It is therefore unclear on what legal basis this new organizational chart could have been conceptualized, as well as the subsequent decisions,” writes the member of the Political Bureau, calling for the defendants to be condemned to pay the costs.

But the activist he represents fears that the PDG, already severely shaken after the coup d’état of August 30, 2023, may be further weakened. He believes that “the decision of March 7, 2024, on the new organizational chart, may deeply compromise the organization and functioning of the party”. He wants to summon the new leaders of the party to appear in court, but invites the judge to suspend the disputed decision before any judgment on the merits.
