The Cameroonian Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, received the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor of France, General François Lecointre, in audience on March 7th. General François Lecointre is in Africa for the first time, after being installed as the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor on February 1st, 2023. As his first destination in African soil, the general arrived in Cameroon to meet with authorities and engage in discussions. This choice, driven by President Emmanuel Macron, highlights the importance that France places on its partnership with Cameroon.

During the meeting at the Etoile Building, the Prime Minister and the general discussed the importance of the relationship between France and Cameroon. The French general emphasized the significance of Cameroon for France, stating, “Symbolically, the visit of the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor, my first visit to Africa since taking office, underscores the importance of Cameroon for France.”

France aims to strengthen its strategic relationship with Cameroon in light of its institutional stability. According to the Grand Chancellor, this stability is an asset for strengthening the ties between France and its former African allies, “at a time when many French-speaking African countries are facing constitutional difficulties,” noted François Lecointre in the presence of the French ambassador to Cameroon, General Thierry Marchand.
