The first round of the 2023/2024 Safari Tour at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course ended with four players tied on three under par. Erick Ooko, Mutahi Kibugu, Greg Snow, and Justus Madoya all shot three under par 68 to lead the competition. Madoya had set the initial pace by making four birdies at the third, fourth, sixth, and ninth for a bogey-free opening nine.

Ooko dropped shots at the second and fourth but recovered by picking up one at the ninth. He managed to produce four birdies at the 12th, 15th, 17th, and 18th for a low four under par 31 at the back nine. Kibugu started with a bogey at the first hole but birdied three holes at the front nine and picked up another bogey at the sixth. At the back nine, Kibugu birdied the 10th, 14th, 17th, and 18th, but bogeys at the 12th and 16th denied him the lead.

Greg Snow dropped only one shot at the 12th, but made two birdies at the front nine and one at the back. The players tied for fifth place were Rwanda’s Celestine Nsanzuwera and Daniel Nduva, both on two under par. Frank Matilo, Njoroge Kibugu, Samuel Njoroge, and Namibia’s Kasoma Paulino tied for seventh place on one under par.

The second round of the tournament is set for 7am on Monday. The top cash prize of Sh150,000 awaits the player who proves to be the best in the competition. The leaderboard is tight, and the race for the top spot is heating up as the tournament progresses.
