The Idia Royals Female Cricket Club in Benin emerged victorious, defeating the Smashers CC of Uyo by seven wickets to claim the 2024 South-South Female Cricket League title. This victory, reminiscent of one 24 years ago, saw South Africa clinch the bronze medal after a goalless draw with DR Congo, followed by a successful 6-5 penalty shootout. In a bid to promote badminton in Nigeria, the Badminton Federation, in cooperation with the Cross River State Ministry of Education and the UN Refugee Agency’s Ogoja Zonal Office, conducted a two-day badminton outreach training program for Physical and Health Education Teachers from 16 secondary schools, from February 8 to February 9, 2024. In more tragic news, marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum passed away in a traffic accident. The 24-year-old Kenyan athlete was behind the wheel when the accident occurred, resulting in the loss of not only his life but also that of his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, from Rwanda.
