Oluwatosin Ogunsanya, the Executive Secretary of the Knowledge Exchange Centre (KEC), recently announced the organization’s commitment to addressing the technology skill gap through a free digital skill training program for youths. The GAP Digital Skill program aims to provide training and mentorship to 100 young graduates from across the country, with a focus on bridging the skills gap between what employers are looking for and the skills that graduates currently possess.
The program, which was initiated in 2015, is designed to help graduates gain the digital skills necessary for today’s job market. Ogunasanya highlighted the importance of digital skills in today’s economy, stating that the program has been focusing on digital skills such as social media management for the past three years. The goal of the program is to equip participants with the necessary skills to succeed in the digital marketing industry.
As part of the program, 25 industry professionals will mentor the 100 participants, with some mentors located abroad. The program will consist of a three-month curriculum, including an eight-week social media marketing program, a six-week mentoring component, and a three-week job readiness training. In addition to digital marketing training, participants will also receive training on job search and retention skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
The orientation ceremony for the GAP Digital Skill program took place in Lagos, where Ogunasanya emphasized the organization’s dedication to providing practical and relevant training to equip young graduates with the skills needed to succeed in today’s digital economy. The program is set to run for three months, concluding in May.
