Finidi George has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles for their upcoming international friendly matches against Ghana and Mali. This decision was announced on the Super Eagles’ social media handle, where a photo of Finidi engaging in discussions with team officials was shared.
Previously serving as assistant to Jose Peseiro, Finidi now steps into the role of interim head coach following Peseiro’s departure after leading the team to a second place finish at the AFCON 2023. His first task in this new position will be overseeing the friendly games against Ghana and Mali, scheduled to take place on 22nd and 26th March in Marrakech, Morocco.
As preparations for the matches get underway, a group of 11 players have already assembled at the Eagles’ camp. Among those present are Alex Iwobi, Cyriel Dessers, Moses Simon, Stanley Nwabali, Bruno Onyemaechi, Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Nathan Tella, Calvin Bassey, and Umar Sadiq. Unfortunately, Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, Tyronne Ebuehi, and a new invitee from Luton Town have been sidelined due to injury.
With Finidi George now at the helm, there is anticipation and excitement surrounding the Super Eagles’ upcoming friendly matches.
