In a statement published by the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Congolese President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo said he had “learned with the greatest dismay” about the violence that the country has experienced and “strongly condemns these acts of extreme violence which are likely to disrupt the political transition process to which the Chadian people have adhered and for which they await the outcome through the presidential election scheduled for May 6, 2024”.

While offering his condolences for the loss of human lives, Félix Tshisekedi praised “the decision to conduct an investigation to shed light on the events” and called on “Chadian political and social actors to exercise restraint and to favor peaceful means of resolving differences”.
