Former Agriculture Principal Secretary Richard Lesiyampe recalled the harrowing experience when heavily armed bandits attacked his home in Loibornkare, Samburu West. The invasion of his home by the criminals mirrored the intensity of the Israel versus Hamas war in Gaza, leaving Dr. Lesiyampe in disbelief and anguish.

Dr. Lesiyampe described the attackers as ruthless and calculated, breaching security fences with precision and turning his home, a symbol of authority in Loibornkare, into a battleground. The attack sent panic through the surrounding villages, which have been plagued by gun attacks over the past year. The ex-PS was present during the attack and witnessed the destruction and gunshots alongside his panicked family.

The audacious assault sparked concern over the degree of banditry in Samburu West, where more than 60 locals have reportedly died at the hands of armed bandits since the previous year. The attacks have not only destabilized families and disrupted economic activities but also led to the displacement of thousands of locals. Dr. Lesiyampe called on the government to take charge and put an end to the madness, emphasizing the need for President Ruto to intervene.

Samburu County Police Commander David Wambua confirmed that officers had been dispatched to investigate the attack. The assault came just three days after multiple bandit attacks in the Morijo area led to the closure of Soit Pus Primary School. The ongoing banditry has left the region volatile, despite the deployment of security forces to curb the violence.

Dr. Lesiyampe expressed concern about the lawlessness and violence in the region, calling for an end to the primitive methods of capital accumulation through cattle rustling. He highlighted the need for the state to protect its people and put an end to the disruptions caused by the attacks. Despite the challenges, Dr. Lesiyampe maintains hope that the government will take decisive action to bring peace and security back to the region.
