The community of Nakanyonyi village in Jinja North City Division was left shocked and devastated after the tragic death of Alex Isabirye, the former headmaster of Mwiri Primary School. Isabirye was a well-respected figure in the community, known for his dedication to education and his commitment to the well-being of his students. His life was cut short in a senseless act of violence when he was attacked by suspected robbers while on his way to morning prayers at Miracle Centre Church.

The brutal attack took place at around 5:30am on a Friday morning as Isabirye was leaving his residence. He was confronted by men on a motorcycle who demanded his bag, mistakenly believing it contained money. In reality, the bag held only a Bible, but the assailants proceeded to inflict multiple stab wounds on Isabirye with a machete. His neighbor, who witnessed the attack, described hearing a scuffle and later finding Isabirye with severe head injuries. Despite efforts to get him to a hospital for treatment, Isabirye’s injuries were too severe, and he tragically passed away from his wounds.

The Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Jinja South Division, Henry Kitambula, condemned the attack and warned of the resurgence of machete-wielding thugs in the area. He assured the community that security forces were working to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks. Kitambula also mentioned that previous efforts had led to the arrest of thirty suspected thugs in the area, following complaints from residents about rising crime rates.

Isabirye’s untimely death is not an isolated incident in the area, as other prominent community members have also fallen victim to violent attacks. The community mourned not only the loss of a dedicated educator but also the loss of Prossy Nyanga, a well-known weightlifter, and Rogers Kifubangabo, the son of a respected government official.

Isabirye dedicated over four decades of his life to the education sector, serving in various primary schools in the region before retiring in 2020. He was known for his passion for teaching and his commitment to shaping the minds of the next generation. In his retirement, Isabirye had ventured into commercial poultry farming and other business ventures, demonstrating his resilience and adaptability in the face of change.

The tragic death of Alex Isabirye has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking concerns about the safety and security of residents. As the authorities investigate the circumstances of his death and work to apprehend those responsible, the community comes together to mourn the loss of a beloved figure and advocate for justice and peace in their neighborhood.
