Ex-Canada envoy Acheng enters National Women Council race as independent

Former Uganda High Commissioner to Canada Joy Ruth Acheng, who is now Uganda’s ambassador to the Bahamas, has joined the race for National Women Council chairperson, two years after she was expelled from Canada following a confrontation with supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

Acheng, who was declared persona non grata by Canadian authorities in August 2024 over what they described as undiplomatic conduct, announced her independent candidature in Kampala on Monday.
