The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) recently announced that it has expelled Keria Ibrahim, a former member of the executive committee, from the party. In addition, the party also removed Mulu Gebregziabher, a former member of the central committee, from the party. These decisions were made in response to the resolution adopted by the TPLF central committee to address the prolonged issue concerning executive and central committee members who were detained by the federal government during the conflict in the Tigray region.

According to a statement released by the party, the expulsion of Keria and Mulu was due to their alleged “mishandling of confidential information,” which was deemed a violation of the party’s rules and regulations. Keria Ibrahim, who previously served as the speaker of the House of Federation, was apprehended by the federal government in December 2020 and was released from detention in March 2021. The party’s statement also mentioned that both Keria and Mulu have expressed regret for their actions and have stated their commitment to making amends in their future endeavors for the benefit of their community.

As a result of these expulsions, the TPLF has announced that Adisalem Balema (PhD) and Abraham Tekeste (PhD) will retain their positions as members of the executive committee, while Solomon Kidane (PhD), Atsbeha Aregawi, Kiros Hagos, and Redai Berhe (PhD) will continue to serve as central committee members.

The decision to expel Keria Ibrahim and Mulu Gebregziabher from the TPLF reflects the party’s willingness to hold its members accountable for their actions, especially in light of alleged violations of confidentiality and the party’s rules and regulations. These expulsions also signal the TPLF’s commitment to upholding the integrity and ethical conduct of its members, as well as the importance of accountability and responsibility in serving the community.

The TPLF’s actions are significant in light of the ongoing challenges faced by the Tigray region, particularly in the aftermath of the conflict and the federal government’s involvement. By taking steps to address internal issues and hold its members accountable, the TPLF is working to strengthen its organization and uphold its principles and values, while also reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of the Tigrayan community.

Overall, the expulsion of Keria Ibrahim and Mulu Gebregziabher from the TPLF underscores the party’s dedication to ethical leadership, accountability, and integrity. As the TPLF navigates ongoing challenges in the region, these actions reflect its commitment to responsible governance, transparency, and the best interests of the Tigrayan people.
