Huawei, in partnership with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, launched the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 in Ethiopia last year. This competition aims to provide a platform for Ethiopian university students to showcase their skills in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). After the completion of the national ICT contest, nine students from various Ethiopian universities have been selected to represent their country at the 8th Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Regional Final in Tunisia.

The Ethiopian university students who emerged victorious in the national final of the Huawei ICT competition in Addis Ababa are currently in Tunisia, competing against students from nine other countries including Mali, Cameroon, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Morocco. This regional competition brings together a total of 90 students vying for top honors in the ICT field.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a platform that attracts over 1,000 higher education students from around the world to showcase their ICT skills and knowledge. In Ethiopia, the competition saw more than 280 students participate in the preliminary exam, with 80 of them advancing to the national final competition held online. Finally, nine students were selected to represent Ethiopia at the regional Huawei ICT final exam in Tunisia, which is scheduled to take place from March 5 to 8, 2024.

This competition not only provides a competitive environment for students to showcase their ICT talents but also fosters idea exchange and collaboration among participants. It aims to enhance students’ knowledge and practical skills in ICT, as well as their ability to innovate using new technologies and platforms.

The Ethiopian students competing in Tunisia hail from Addis Ababa Science and Technology, Jimma, Haramaya, and Arbaminch Universities. To support and guide the students during the competition, three instructors have accompanied them to Tunisia.

It is worth noting that Ethiopian students have previously achieved third place at the 7th Huawei ICT global final competition, which was held in Shenzhen, China. This success showcases the talent and potential of Ethiopian students in the field of ICT and highlights the importance of such competitions in nurturing and showcasing talent on a global stage.

In conclusion, the Huawei ICT Competition provides a valuable opportunity for Ethiopian university students to demonstrate their ICT skills and compete at an international level. It serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and innovation in the field of information and communication technology. The participation of Ethiopian students in such competitions not only showcases their talent but also contributes to the growth and development of the ICT sector in Ethiopia.
