Ethiopian university students recently achieved a remarkable feat by winning third place in the regional final of the Huawei ICT competition global final held in Tunisia. The competition took place from 5-8 March and featured 90 students from nine countries, including Mali, Cameroon, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Morocco.

The Ethiopian team, consisting of three students from Addis Abeba University Science and Technology and Arbaminch University, participated in a computing track and secured the third position behind teams from Morocco and Tunisia. As a reward for their outstanding performance, Huawei presented the winning students with their latest mobile phones, while the other six participants received Huawei tablets. The company also commended the instructors for their support and guidance throughout the competition.

Huawei Public Relations Director Liming Ye expressed the company’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage in healthy competition, exchange ideas, and enhance their ICT knowledge and practical skills. By leveraging new technologies and platforms, Huawei aims to empower students to innovate and excel in the field of information and communication technology.

The regional competition brought together 30 teams from Northern Africa, representing different regions including North, West, and Central Africa. Ethiopia fielded nine students divided into three teams, each competing in one of the three categories: cloud track, computing track, and network track. The winners of the regional competition will advance to the final phase in China in 2024, where they will compete against over 20,000 students from 500 universities worldwide.

The Huawei ICT Competition serves as a platform for global college students to showcase their talent in the field of information and communication technology. Through this competitive event, students have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, exchange knowledge, and explore innovative solutions to real-world problems.

Overall, the success of Ethiopian university students in the Huawei ICT competition reflects the country’s growing prominence in the field of technology and innovation. By nurturing young talent and providing them with opportunities to expand their skills and expertise, Ethiopia is paving the way for a bright future in the digital age.
