The global turmoil that we are currently experiencing raises the pressing question of how best to address these challenges diplomatically. His Majesty the King, alongside over 15 Heads of State and governments, will convene at the third Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) in Turkiye to seek solutions to the upheavals gripping various parts of the world. This forum, which forms part of the King’s working visit to Turkiye, aims to explore the use of diplomacy as a tool for resolving conflicts in the contemporary world.
Scheduled to take place from tomorrow until March 3, 2024, the ADF will be inaugurated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Among the esteemed leaders expected at the forum are the President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina; Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa; Togo’s Fabre Gnassingbe; Central African Republic’s Faustin-Archabge Touadera; the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi; Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud; Djibouti’s Ismail Guelleh; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria’s Rumen Radev; and Kosovo’s Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu. Additionally, Prime Ministers from Moldova, Burundi, Montenegro, and Hungary will also be in attendance.
This year’s forum, the third of its kind, will bring together heads of state and government, ministers, diplomats, business leaders, academics, think-tankers, youth, and media representatives for a comprehensive discussion under the theme “Advancing Diplomacy in Times of Turmoil.” The forum will serve as a platform to reflect on global challenges such as ongoing wars, terrorism, irregular migration, climate change, pandemics, and economic disparities, as well as the erosion of trust in the international order.
The ADF will delve into critical issues including the Middle East conflicts, terrorism, climate change, and the implications of artificial intelligence. Topics for discussion also include challenges in the Balkans, EU’s global influence, food security, women’s role in peace, innovative mediation, international trade, and empowering least developed countries. The forum will explore ways to counteract terrorism, promote global peace through youth engagement, outline parliaments’ role in peacebuilding, harness Africa’s potential, address racism and xenophobia, and evaluate the role of culture in fostering regional cooperation.
In addition to participating in the forum, His Majesty the King will engage in various other activities, while Inkhosikati LaNkambule will partake in discussions and initiatives tailored for First Ladies. This gathering of world leaders and stakeholders aims to foster dialogue, cooperation, and innovative solutions to the complex challenges facing our global community. Through diplomatic efforts and collaborative approaches, the ADF seeks to pave the way for a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous world for all.
