Eswatini Housing Board has recently announced an increase in rentals by 3.9 per cent effective as of April 1, 2024. This information was communicated through a memorandum by the Head of Property Management, Sanele Bhembe, which was shared on the EHB Facebook page and website. This increment follows a previous increase of 3.8 per cent in 2023, which was also implemented on April 1 of that year.
In addition to the rental increment, the Housing Board has entered into a partnership with Ensure Insurance Brokers to offer insurance coverage on tenants’ property up to the value of E100,000. This insurance will be provided at a monthly fee of E148, and tenants also have the option to insure their vehicles at a premium of four per cent of the motor vehicle valuation amount.
The new rental rates will affect properties in various locations, with the rent at old Mobeni in both Mbabane and Matsapha increasing from E1,730 to E1,795. Similarly, at Enhlanhleni and Kuyehlela Flats, the rent will rise from E3,150 to E3,275. A two-bedroom townhouse will now cost E5,045, up from E5245. Residents were reminded that their lease agreements expired on March 31, 2024 and the Housing Board has extended the lease renewal option with a deadline of April 1, 2024.
Furthermore, the Eswatini Housing Board has announced tender applications for Security and Cash in Transit services. Interested parties have until April 22, 2024, to submit their bids for consideration.
The Housing Board continues to strive towards providing quality housing and services to its tenants while ensuring the sustainability and maintenance of its properties. These incremental adjustments in rentals and insurance offerings are aimed at improving the overall living experience for residents and safeguarding their personal belongings and assets.
As the EHB implements these changes and welcomes new partnerships, it reinforces its commitment to transparent communication and proactive engagement with its tenants. Through initiatives like insurance coverage and tender opportunities, the Housing Board seeks to create a supportive and secure environment for all residents within its properties.
It is essential for tenants to stay informed about these updates and deadlines to ensure a smooth transition and compliance with the new rental rates and lease renewal options. By working together with the Housing Board, residents can contribute to the sustainability and growth of the housing community in Eswatini.
