Eswatini Air, the country’s airline service, is celebrating one year of operation since its launch. On March 26, 2023, Eswatini Air took its inaugural flight, marking a significant milestone in the country’s aviation industry. The arrival of the airline not only provided a much-needed connectivity boost but also positioned Eswatini as a key player in the regional aviation landscape.
According to Eswatini Air, the airline has played a vital role in facilitating business travel, boosting tourism, and connecting Eswatini to the rest of the world. In an interview with Eswatini TV, Royal Eswatini National Airways Corporation (RENAC) Acting CEO Ndumiso Shongwe expressed gratitude to the emaSwati for their support since the airline’s inception.
Moving forward, the airline is focusing on maintaining its service delivery while staying in the air, as Shongwe highlighted that the aircraft only generates revenue when it continues to fly. He emphasized the importance of managing operational costs and stated that diversifying products and services is crucial to achieving this goal.
“We are exploring opportunities to venture into cargo services, local training, and maintaining services within the country instead of outsourcing. Our primary objective is to always be in the sky,” said Shongwe. When Eswatini Air was launched, the company communicated to the government and the public that it did not expect immediate success. Similar to many airlines, Eswatini Air projected the break-even point to be around three years, indicating when the company would become profitable and fully independent.
The support from emaSwati who continue to utilize the airline has been a significant source of encouragement for the company. Since its launch, Eswatini Air has transported 28,000 passengers to four major destinations: Durban, Harare, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
Looking ahead, Eswatini Air is committed to enhancing its operations, improving service delivery, and remaining a reliable airline service provider in the region. The airline’s goal is to strengthen its position in the aviation industry, expand its service offerings, and contribute to the growth and development of Eswatini’s aviation sector.
In conclusion, Eswatini Air’s successful first year of operation reflects the resilience, dedication, and vision of the company’s management and employees. With a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction, Eswatini Air is poised for continued success and growth in the years to come.
