On 17 April 2024, a workshop organized by the Ministry of Land, Water, and Environment was held in Keren on 15 and 16 April. The workshop focused on the guidelines, importance, and challenges of cadastral registration, as well as its benefits. During his keynote address, Mr. Tesfai Gebreselasie, Minister of Land, Water, and Environment, highlighted the workshop’s goal of increasing public awareness of land, water, and environmental issues. He emphasized the essential role of effective management in all activities and the government’s commitment to implementing guidelines beneficially.

A detailed report was presented at the workshop, outlining the government’s efforts to ensure equal opportunities and proper land use in line with the Macro Policy of 1994. The report also addressed the need to prevent harmful practices that impact the land, promote land development, and resolve conflicts. Challenges in managing water resources for household use, irrigation, and development projects were discussed, with an emphasis on efficient use and enrichment of underground water sources as the optimal solution.

The report underscored the importance of cadastral registration, established under Proclamation No. 95/1997.

Participants in the workshop engaged in extensive discussions on the report and endorsed various recommendations, such as promoting sustainable awareness-raising activities, conserving indigenous crops, monitoring chemicals used in illegal mining activities, and ensuring the workshop’s sustainability.
