On March 4, the Central Region branch of the National Union of Eritrean Women organized a seminar in Asmara in honor of International Women’s Day, focusing on the theme “The Role of a Strong Women’s Organization in National Affairs.” This year, International Women’s Day is celebrated under the theme “Equality: Our Core Principle.”

The event was attended by union branch leaders, representatives from various ministries, and women from the region’s 16 sub-zones. Alem Belai, the regional union branch head, stressed the importance of organizational strength in advancing gender equality and women’s involvement in national issues.

Simon Woldemicael, the seminar coordinator, emphasized the crucial role of women in achieving national independence, stating that women’s active participation was essential in attaining independence. He also recognized the significant contributions of Eritrean women in securing the nation’s independence and sovereignty.

Mr. Woldemicael also urged women to strengthen their organizational skills to better contribute to the union’s objectives.

In a separate event, Rezene Michael, the PFDJ secretary for the Southern Red Sea Region, held a seminar in Assab for women workers, focusing on the transformative role of women in society. Mr. Michael highlighted the important contributions of Eritrean women in achieving independence and protecting national sovereignty, encouraging women to enhance their skills to keep up with technological advancements.

Furthermore, Osman Abdulkadir, head of the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students in the Southern Red Sea Region, engaged with young teachers to discuss the critical role of educators in developing capable students.

These events reflect the ongoing efforts to empower women and teachers, recognizing their essential roles in the nation’s socio-political landscape.
