On 05 April 2024, President Isaias Afwerki had extensive discussions with Vice Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, at the State House. The meeting aimed to strengthen the existing relationships between Eritrea and Russia, following their initial talks in Massawa.
Also present at the discussion were Gen. Filipos Woldeyohannes, Maj. Gen. Romodan Osman Aweliay, Ambassador Zemede Tekle, and Mr. Igor Mozgo, the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Eritrea.
In their previous meeting in Massawa, President Isaias Afwerki and Vice Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov discussed the potential for strengthening bilateral relations, as agreed during the Africa-Russia Summit in St. Petersburg. The discussions in St. Petersburg covered various cooperation areas such as infrastructure, energy, mining, agriculture, marine resources, and defense and security.
The Russian delegation, led by Vice Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov, concluded their successful official visit to Eritrea on 6 April.
