Eritrea: International Women’s Day Celebrated in Southern Region – Africa Links 24

8 March 2024 – Mendefera – The International Women’s Day was celebrated in Halhale, Southern Region, with members of the Livestock and Crops Corporation at the regional level, focusing on the theme “Equality: Our Core Principle.”

Ms. Senait Afwerki, head of the union branch in the Southern Region, commended the resilience and unity of the Eritrean people in securing national independence and overcoming external challenges. She highlighted the vital role of Eritrean women in the fight for independence, maintaining national sovereignty, and active involvement in national affairs, emphasizing their rightful place in history.

Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, Governor of the Southern Region, emphasized the significant contributions of Eritrean women in the nation’s development and called for passing on these values to future generations.

Mr. Frewengel Teklehaimanot, administrator of Dubarwa sub-zone, and Maj. Kibreab Abraham, head of the Livestock and Crops Corporation, praised the participation of women in various sectors and advocated for increased involvement to achieve better outcomes.

Furthermore, the National Union of Eritrean Women’s branch in the Southern Region demonstrated its support by providing financial aid to families in need and recognizing outstanding students in academics and sports.
