The Red Sea Camels of Eritrea had a stellar performance at the 13th All African Games held at Olebu-Ablekuma route in Accra, securing two gold medals and a silver medal on day three of the competition. Led by Sprinter Nahom Zeray Araya, the team showed power, pace, and precision in the 84-kilometer men’s elite race over 30 laps. Nahom Zeray Araya clinched the first position, with Merhawi Kudus from Eritrea following closely, and Blaine Conrad from South Africa finishing third.

In the U-23 category, Nahom Zeray Araya once again dominated, taking the first position, followed by De Comarmond Aurelie of Mauritius and Blaine Conrad of South Africa. A total of 96 riders participated in the men’s elite race, with 34 dropping out along the way, including Ghana’s contingents. Thirty-one riders successfully completed the challenging task.

The women’s category featured a 56km race over 20 laps, with South African Hayley Preen claiming the gold medal. Greff Anri Krugel from Namibia and Diane Ingabre from Rwanda secured the second and third positions, respectively. Out of 44 female riders who started the race, 22 pulled out, including Ghana’s sole representatives.

The competition continued with Time Trials on Thursday and Friday, culminating in the Mixed Relay on Saturday. Eritrea’s success at the All African Games was highlighted on social media, with tweets congratulating the team on their impressive performance. Eritrea secured a total of five medals, including three gold, one silver, and one bronze, showcasing their dominance in the cycling events.

Individual riders from Eritrea also received recognition for their achievements. Adiam Dawit, who initially settled for silver in the U-23 Women’s Road Race, secured a gold medal in the U-23 Criterium race. The Eritrean team continued to excel, with strong performances from riders like Nahom, Merhawi, and Milkias in various categories.
