Eritrea: Awards to outstanding students and teachers – Africa Links 24

Keren, March 13, 2024 – Lasalle Elementary, Junior, and High School in Keren have celebrated exceptional students and teachers for their outstanding achievements. A total of 83 students who performed exceptionally well in the 2022/2023 national examinations, as well as exceptional teachers, were honored during a ceremony held on March 9.

The event recognized 59 students from the 35th round of national service who achieved GPAs between 3 and 4 in the national school leaving examination. Additionally, 24 eighth-grade students who scored 90 points or above in their national examination were also awarded.

The school also took the opportunity to appreciate teachers for their significant contributions to the educational process. Mr. Habtom Haile, the school’s director, emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers and committing to the continuation of such programs systematically.

In honor of International Women’s Day, the Anseba Region branch of the National Union of Eritrean Women presented special awards to female students who achieved a 4 GPA in the national school leaving examination.

Onabur Junior and High School in the Adi-Keih subzone also celebrated the achievements of 22 outstanding students from the 2022/2023 academic year in both the school leaving and eighth-grade national examinations. The event, organized by the school’s parent committee and teachers, aimed to inspire students towards greater academic success.

Mr. Leul Mehari, the school’s director, mentioned that the awards were meant to inspire awardees to strive for excellence in their future academic pursuits and act as role models for their peers.

Mr. Mebrahtu Tesfom, head of the education office in the sub-zone, stressed the importance of continuing such motivational programs.

The awardees expressed their appreciation for the recognition, stating that it serves as a significant motivator for their future academic endeavors and applauding the initiative to acknowledge their hard work.
