The decision was made during a meeting that H.E. Nguema Obiang Mangue held on Thursday, February 29, at the People’s Palace in Malabo, with the Ministers of Sports, Civil Cabinet of the Presidency, Treasury, and the board of the Equatorial Guinean Football Federation.
During the meeting, it was revealed that the FEGUIFUT is claiming payment for 7 invoices for matches played by the male and female national teams, as well as clubs.
The government has expressed willingness to pay outstanding payments, but demands transparency in budgets and financial management. They have suggested that the Football Federation should send an annual schedule of matches so that payments can be made on time, and the federation can improve its administration.
FEGUIFUT receives an annual grant from the State, in addition to funds from CAF and FIFA for operating expenses and development of sporting activities in the country.
To ensure that funds are used rationally, the Vice President believes it is necessary to establish a mechanism for controlling expenses. The board of the national sports organization is required to justify their financial management over the past two years within 30 days. The proposal for creating a committee to process state payments and control expenses has also been put forward.
With these measures, Nguema Obiang Mangue aims to ensure transparency in the financial management of sports federations in the country, with the goal of promoting sports in Equatorial Guinea and avoiding corrupt practices.
