Enugu Rangers will be looking to secure a spot in continental football for the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, and their efforts have been given a boost by the addition of six new players ahead of the NPFL’s resumption on February 14. Norbert Okolie, the Media Officer for Enugu Rangers, announced the arrival of the new players, each of whom brings a unique set of skills and experience to the team.
The new additions to the squad include Uchenna Ezeala, a central defender who has transferred from Go-Round FC, Zulkifilu Mohammed Rabiu, a support striker from Lobi Stars, and Odo Joshua Chidiebere, a central attacker who is also capable of playing on the flanks. Chidiebere is joining the Flying Antelopes from the Saudi Arabian league. The other new recruits are Ogbodo Kelechi Emmanuel, a midfielder from Disdeft Football Academy, Aniji Ifeanyichukwu Michael, an attacking midfielder from Flying Angels F.C, and Nebo Tochukwu Kingsley, a left-winger who joins from Olicon Rovers F.C of Enugu.
In order to make room for these new signings, several players including Joel Okoro, Leonard Ugochukwu, Malachi Ohawume, Jonas Emmanuel, and Barnabas Ingya have been sent on loan to other clubs in the premier and lower leagues.
Enugu Rangers’ CEO, Amobi Ezeaku, expressed his satisfaction with the new signings, describing them as quality players who will provide the coaching staff with the necessary options to compete for titles in both the league and federation cup. He emphasized the club’s focus on acquiring experienced and youthful talent, expressing confidence in their ability to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu also expressed his confidence in the new recruits, stating that the team is well-prepared to challenge for trophies in the upcoming season. He emphasized the importance of a balance between youth and experience in the team, highlighting the tough and challenging nature of the upcoming season and their determination to achieve their targets.
The new players’ arrival has instilled a sense of optimism and excitement within the Enugu Rangers camp, as the team prepares to resume its quest for continental qualification. With a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young talent, the team is poised to make a strong push for success in the forthcoming season and beyond.
