The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Enoh, has made a commitment to ensuring the timely release of funds for the preparation of Nigerian athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Scheduled to take place from July 26 to Aug. 11 in Paris, the Games are a highly anticipated global event that will see athletes from around the world competing for glory.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Diana-Mary Nsan, the minister emphasized the importance of securing funding in a timely manner to facilitate comprehensive preparations for the Olympic Games. Enoh also highlighted the ministry’s plans to actively seek partnerships with private individuals and the corporate sector to bolster financial support for the athletes.

Taking inspiration from the successful model implemented during the African Games in Ghana, where all athletes were insured, the minister pledged to build on that success. He revealed that plans are underway to provide insurance coverage for Team Nigeria athletes to mitigate risks associated with injuries and unforeseen circumstances, showcasing a proactive approach to athlete welfare. Additionally, Enoh announced plans to implement salaries for grade A athletes, aiming to provide ongoing support and motivation to athletes as they prepare for the Games. This initiative will enable athletes to focus on their training and performance without financial constraints.

Expressing confidence in Nigeria’s athletes and their potential to achieve success at the Paris Olympic Games, the minister is committed to providing the necessary support and resources to ensure their readiness for competition. With the inclusion of breaking (also known as breakdancing) as an Olympic event for the first time in history, Paris 2024 promises to be a unique and exciting experience for athletes and spectators alike. Furthermore, the Games will mark the first time that an equal number of male and female athletes will be participating, highlighting the importance of gender equality in sports.

Enoh’s proactive approach to athlete welfare and preparation reflects a commitment to supporting Nigerian athletes in their pursuit of excellence. By ensuring the timely release of funds, securing partnerships for financial support, and implementing initiatives such as insurance coverage and athlete salaries, the minister is laying the groundwork for a successful and competitive showing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming Games, Nigerian athletes can rest assured that they will have the necessary support and resources to compete at the highest level. With the backing of the Ministry of Sports Development and the commitment of Sen. John Enoh, Team Nigeria is poised for success on the global stage in Paris 2024.
