Marie-Edith Tassyla Doumbeneny took up her position as the ambassador of Gabon to France and permanent representative of Gabon to the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) at the French Embassy in Gabon on Tuesday, April 16. She was appointed to this position on January 22, 2024, replacing Lyliane Massala.

“Welcome, Madam Ambassador,” were the words used to warmly welcome Marie-Edith Tassyla Doumbeneny on April 16 at the French Embassy in Gabon where she assumed her duties. After assessing the embassy, she spoke with the staff of the Gabonese diplomatic representation and shared her expectations. “We who have the privilege of working in this building have a heavy responsibility. We must engage fully by each contributing in our own way,” stated the diplomat.

“This requires respect for hierarchy and the fundamentals of administration such as dedication to work, diligence, punctuality, availability, and strictly following each other’s responsibilities to avoid any overlap of competence,” she added to her collaborators. Appointed on January 22, 2024, as the high representative ambassador of Gabon to France and permanent representative of Gabon to the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), she replaces Lyliane Massala in this role.

The aspirations of the new diplomat

With jurisdiction over Portugal, Monaco, and Andorra, Marie-Edith Tassyla Doumbeneny aims to promote Gabon’s interests on the international stage. “A new wind is blowing on 26 bis, Avenue Raphael; a wind inspired by the spirit of the Liberation Coup of August 30, 2023; a wind that leads us to reevaluate the relationship between our Representation and the Gabonese community living in all the jurisdictions entrusted to me, especially those residing in France,” wrote the diplomat in her welcome message on the Gabon Embassy website in France.

She encourages those in France to show their presence by developing their activities in all areas and expresses her ambition to strengthen and revitalize the centuries-old ties between France and Gabon; make economic diplomacy her priority; offer Gabonese residents or visitors in France with a better quality of public service and promote the image of Gabon in France. She reassures them that the embassy, through all its services, is at their disposal for assistance and support in all their administrative procedures within its competencies. “I will always be available to listen to you and address your concerns better,” she promised.
