Cape Verdean long-distance runner Elenise Mendes, from Emicela Team Cape Verde, today won the Fôz Coa Douro Trail Adventure race in Portugal in the short distance of 15.5 kilometers, with a time of 1 hour, 41 minutes, and 00 seconds.
The athlete from Santa Catarina de Santiago stood out from the Cape Verdean quintet in this international race in this region of Portugal, where Emicela Team Cape Verde saw athlete Iderlindo Barros, from the municipality of São Domingos (Santiago), climb the podium by finishing third in the 20 km trail.
Meanwhile, Edson Correia, from the sports region of São Nicolau, narrowly missed the podium by finishing fourth in the 15.5 km race.
In the 20 km race, Márcio Tavares, also from São Domingos, finished in 13th place, while Mário Cardoso, from the same municipality, crossed the finish line in 18th place.
This trail race will be contested over three days and in three stages, with distances of 10, 15, 31, and 46 kilometers.
The Foz Côa Douro Trail Adventure (FCDTA) is organized by Carlos Sá Nature Events, with the support of the municipality of Vila Nova Foz Côa, and takes place from the 8th to the 10th of this month.
